EL ARTE DE SEGUIR RESISTIENDO

 

"El momento más solitario en la vida de alguien es cuando está viendo cómo su mundo se desmorona, y lo único que puede hacer, es mirar fijamente" (frase de "El Gran Gatsby" de F. Scott Fitzgerald).

En Septiembre del 2021 estabamos saliendo de los efectos de una pandemia y entonces escribía estos párrafos :

“El sueño de un país en igualdad, solidario, con gran desarrollo de las artes y la cultura, con más educación de calidad y las mismas oportunidades para todas y todos, poco a poco se van esfumando.

La pandemia de Covid puede dar el golpe final a las muchas de las aspiraciones que se tenían. El deterioro económico que produjo en todo lo que respecta a lo cultural aún es imposible de valorar. El cierre definitivo de espacios culturales, salas cinematográficas, librerías, productoras independientes y la falta de políticas publicas nos dan un panorama de un futuro poco halagador.

Fue Charles Darwin quien lo dijo: “No es la especie más fuerte la que sobrevive, ni la más inteligente, sino la que mejor responde al cambio”. ¿Pero cómo sobrevivir cuando las variaciones son bruscas e inesperadas? En la actualidad buscamos respuestas incesantemente. Es lógico. Vivimos un periodo de grandes transformaciones. Y para sobrevivir, son muchos los que ya no tienen otro remedio: necesitan reinventarse.

En estos últimos 80 años, nos pasamos re-inventándonos producto de las crisis económicas y políticas, a nivel mundial y local. También es cierto que cada década transcurrida lo hicimos con mayor desaliento. Evolucionar forma parte del ser humano, y sin duda eso supone cambiar, pero no es lo mismo a los 30 años que a los 60.”

Hoy nos toca resistir a nivel local y no por efecto de una pandemia. Todo lo expresado en ese momento se aplica perfectamente en una Argentina donde no hay políticas culturales y como mal peor, la cultura no tiene prioridad.

Con un pensamiento que se dice heredero de la Escuela de Economía de Austria y su nexo con el liberal-libertarianismo, las nociones de cultura y sociedad son más bien dejadas de lado en favor de una reivindicación del individuo y sus derechos fundamentales, o como afirman ellos, ´naturales´: la vida, la libertad y la propiedad. La “cultura”, entonces, debería definirse por el devenir que el mercado le otorgue a los productos culturales que más éxito generen. En el cine las películas de superhéroes, en los libros el género de auto-ayuda, y en la música el trap.

En este momento se profesa una ideología anti-pluralista, contra la multiculturalidad,no valorando a quien piensa diferente. Para completar el cuadro se integra una red internacional que incluye a toda la extrema derecha global, con fuerzas desde Estados Unidos hasta España , una articulación internacional para destituir los mecanismos asentados de decisión popular.

En lo personal y más allá de las esperanzas siempre tuvimos que re-inventarnos para poder sobrevivir, tanto mis padres como nosotros que desde ya, no es el primer gobierno autoritario de derecha y anti-cultural que transitamos. Como tantos en la cultura sufrimos desde el exilio hasta la censura , otros lamentablemente fueron directamente asesinados y/o desaparecidos.

En la foto que ilustraba la nota que hacia referencia al principio estoy solo en la que fue en mi sala, vaciá , pero con la esperanza de no suceda otra vez . Hoy si bien puedo sentarme en esa butaca dado que funciona el Cosmos en manos de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, y esperando que la cultura en particular como la sociedad en general tomen conciencia del daño irreparable que se esta ocasionando, quiero ilustrar esta nota con la replica de un óleo sobre lienzo del pintor ecuatoriano Oswaldo Guayasamín :“El grito”,quien abordó durante su carrera temas sensibles para la humanidad como son la crueldad, la injusticia, el dolor y la ternura.

THE ART OF CONTINUEING TO RESIST

In September 2021 we were emerging from the effects of a pandemic and then I wrote these paragraphs:

“The dream of a country of equality, solidarity, with great development of arts and culture, with more quality education and the same opportunities for everyone, little by little are disappearing.

The Covid pandemic can give the final blow to many of the aspirations that were had. The economic deterioration that it produced in everything related to culture is still impossible to assess. The definitive closure of cultural spaces, movie theaters, bookstores, independent production companies and the lack of public policies give us a panorama of an unflattering future.

It was Charles Darwin who said it: “It is not the strongest species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that best responds to change.” But how to survive when the variations are abrupt and unexpected? Nowadays we search incessantly for answers. It is logical. We live in a period of great transformations. And to survive, there are many who no longer have any other choice: they need to reinvent themselves.

In these last 80 years, we have been reinventing ourselves as a result of economic and political crises, globally and locally. It is also true that with each passing decade we did so with greater discouragement. Evolving is part of being human, and without a doubt that means changing, but it is not the same at 30 years old as it is at 60.”

Today we have to resist at the local level and not because of a pandemic. Everything expressed at that moment applies perfectly in an Argentina where there are no cultural policies and, as a worse evil, culture does not have priority.

With a thought that claims to be the heir of the Austrian School of Economics and its link with liberal-libertarianism, the notions of culture and society are rather left aside in favor of a vindication of the individual and his fundamental rights, or as they claim them, 'natural': life, liberty and property. “Culture”, then, should be defined by the future that the market gives to the cultural products that generate the most success. In cinema, superhero movies, in books, the self-help genre, and in music, trap.

At this time an anti-pluralist ideology is professed, against multiculturalism, not valuing those who think differently. To complete the picture, an international network is integrated that includes the entire global extreme right, with forces from the United States to Spain, an international articulation to overthrow the established mechanisms of popular decision-making.

Personally and beyond hope, we always had to reinvent ourselves in order to survive, both my parents and us, which of course, is not the first authoritarian right-wing and anti-cultural government that we have gone through. As so many in culture suffered from exile to censorship, others were unfortunately directly murdered and/or disappeared.

In the photo that illustrated the note that I referenced at the beginning, I am alone in the one that was in my living room, empty, but with the hope that it does not happen again. Today, although I can sit in that seat given that the Cosmos operates in the hands of the University of Buenos Aires, and hoping that culture in particular and society in general become aware of the irreparable damage that is being caused, I want to illustrate this note with the replica of an oil on canvas by the Ecuadorian painter Oswaldo Guayasamín: “The Scream”, who during his career addressed sensitive themes for humanity such as cruelty, injustice, pain and tenderness.
